Cache Education Foundation

Our Philosophy

With a profound interest in the future of Cache Valley and its residents, the Cache Education Foundation (CEF) was founded in 1988 to enhance the learning environment for Cache County School District students from kindergarten through high school. Since that time, the Cache Education Foundation has channeled over $4 million to our students and educators.

Our Mission

To assist the Cache County School District in providing a quality teaching and learning environment for students through funds and resources received from conscientious community and business members.

Over the years, CEF has expanded its programs to include over 10 different scholarships and awards for students, teachers and schools. The CEF also provides educational incentives to encourage teachers and faculty to pursue constant learning. This ensures that students in the Cache County School District are getting the highest level of education available from the most experienced and knowledgeable teachers around.

The Cache Education Foundation would like to publicly thank Dell Loy and Lynnette Hansen and all the generous donors who have been supportive of the many programs for which we advocate.

History of the Donation

Early on in life, Dell Loy Hansen was eager to help those around him and better his community. When it came to education, he wanted to provide the best experience possible for his children. While in his early thirties, Dell Loy was asked to be on the board of trustees for the Cache Education Foundation. At the first meeting he attended, the group discussed a recent donation of $50 and how they would use it to fill their needs. After an hour of discussion, a decision was finally made on what to do with these funds.

Thinking this was an anomaly, Dell Loy returned the following week for another meeting. Another small donation had been given from a long-term donor. Discussions began on the school's needs and how to fill them with this small donation. It quickly became apparent to Dell Loy that the needs far outweighed the donations being made, and the time spent making decisions outweighed the results. Dell Loy decided to help by hiring an executive director to run the Cache Education Foundation.

He met with the school district and made an agreement to split the salary for the first year. This ensured that 100% of the donations would go towards the foundation’s needs. Dell Loy then invited the executive director to work out of the Wasatch office free of charge. This helped keep costs low by providing an office, phones, conference rooms, copiers, office supplies, and anything else they might need. His hope was that someone would create a bigger vision of what the Cache Education Foundation could be, expand into more programs, bring in more donations, and ultimately further the reach of the Cache Education Foundation.

To assure the longevity of the Cache Education Foundation, Dell Loy and Lynnette created the Dell Loy & Lynnette Hansen Charitable Support Foundation in 1998.

The Educational opportunities outside the immediate school work were dismal to me. I wanted to help with that.
— Dell Loy Hansen

Dell Loy is constantly looking for people who can make a big difference with limited resources. He found wonderful people who were doing just that in the Cache Education Foundation and decided to further his commitment to the Dell Loy & Lynnette Hansen Charitable Support Foundation. In 2012, the annual donation reached $161,000.

Brighton Holdings and Wasatch Premier Property donated, increasing the annual distribution to $190,000. Wasatch Premier Properties performed exceptionally well in 2014, which enabled the foundation to donate $220,000. Again, due to a renewed appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the people and recipients of the Cache Education Foundation, Dell Loy and Lynnette decided to donate $1,700,000 in 2015.

Programs

These funds have been vital to the growth and impact the Cache Education Foundation has had on the community. Every year new programs such as Tools for Schools, Hats off Award, Hansen Honorarium Teacher of the Year Award, Art Education, Cache Valley Storytelling, and many more are created to enrich the educational experiences in our community. Funds from the foundation also go to support Debate and We the People at Sky View High School. These programs have been exceptionally successful, taking State 12 of the last 14 years.

This is due in large part to the dedicated and hardworking teachers involved in these programs. Another program that has been especially impactful is Tools for Schools. This is a mini grant program that offers funds to purchase materials for the classroom that would not be available otherwise. This helps teachers broaden the ways they are able to teach and engage their students in the classroom. The Cache Education Foundation receives hundreds of thank you notes year after year because of this program.

The reach and impact of the Cache Education Foundation has been remarkable, improving the educational experiences that are available in Cache Valley, while created new opportunities at the same time.

Through the Dell Loy & Lynnette Hansen Charitable Support Foundation, Dell Loy and Lynnette have been able to impact thousands of lives in the Cache Valley community. With this foundation, and with the vision of a full time executive director, students have been able to participate and learn in new ways. Teachers have been motivated with additional resources and compensated for outstanding performance. The overall education of tomorrow's leaders has improved. This foundation will continue to inspire students and teachers alike for many years to come.

TOOLS FOR SCHOOLs objectives

The objective of the Tools for School mini grant program is to provide small grants ($200 or less) for materials to be used in individual classrooms. Preference will be given to those applications that request materials which can be utilized from year to year, e.g. manipulatives, books, math and science materials, etc.

This program has become a big success among all teachers throughout Cache Valley. The process for a teacher to get a mini grant is a simple one-page form. Our hope is that the teacher can have the resources they need to broaden how they communicate with and teach their students.
